Shadowings by Lafcadio Hearn

"Strange, wandering, and exotic..." — H.P. Lovecraft

The work of countless lifetimes, so its author believed, Shadowings presents Lafcadio Hearn at his most strikingly idiosyncratic. A heady brew of supernatural tales, ethnographic reportage, and mystical autobiography, these sixteen pieces have rarely appeared together since their initial publication at the dawn of the 20th century. Restored to their original context, with a comprehensive introduction by Addison Zeller, they disclose the restless vision of their author. Throughout his wanderings, from Greece to Ireland, America, the Caribbean, and, finally, Japan, Hearn never felt rooted in any one place, in any one time, which makes him an apt guide for human experience at its eerie and fascinating extremes.
